Santiago, 17 September. For the celebration of Fiestas Patrias, VíasChile, Carabineros de Chile and CONASET gave today in O'Higgins Park the initial kick-off of a preventive road safety campaign at a national level, with the aim of raising awareness among Chileans about the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Under the hashtag #lightupyourlife, starting next Tuesday, 17 September, and throughout the five days of the 18th's festivities in which it is anticipated that more than 4 million people will travel by road, a high-impact video will be shown simultaneously in the country's main establishments that relates in first person the terrible consequences of driving while intoxicated.
The audiovisual piece will be shown at the same time in the country's main establishments, in O'Higgins Park, the National Stadium and Padre Hurtado Park in Santiago, as well as in the main establishments in each region. The campaign invites attendees to celebrate and enjoy the great national holiday, but with a strong awareness on exercising self-care and consuming alcohol responsibly to avoid high-risk situations.
The campaign #lightupyourlife began on 2 September through the social network profiles of VíasChile, Carabineros de Chile and CONASET, presenting accident figures for drink-driving, and a preview of the video to be shown during the festivities, with the call to unite to light up the night without extinguishing life.
"This campaign has been successfully launched first in Spain and Italy and today we are replicating it in Chile. We seek to launch a strong appeal for awareness of the risk of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and we invite you to share this campaign on social media, because safety is everyone's responsibility," said VíasChile's Director General, Andres Barberis.

•This initiative aims to strengthen awareness of driver drowsiness, one of the most invisible yet dangerous risk factors on the road, and a leading cause of accidents among both private and professional drivers.
•Scientific studies show that driving after fewer than five hours of sleep significantly impairs reaction time, attention, and decision-making, with effects comparable to driving above the legal alcohol limit.
•The campaign was unveiled at an event that brought together institutional representatives and sector experts in a forum for dialogue that discussed measures to prevent driver drowsiness and improve road safety education.
